Lucia Dušová

Lucia Dušová was born on 20th October 1989 in Partizánske. After finishing high school in Topoľčany, she graduated from the Department of Marketing Communication at the University of Trnava. Since she was a small child, Lucia has enjoyed drawing, painting and creating all sorts of decorative items, wanting to bring the beauty that she feels and discovers into the lives of other people.

Currently she focuses mainly on painting with acrylics on fibreboard and from time to time she supplements her paintings with other techniques. Her search for an artistic identity has been somewhat turbulent, throughout her work we can find different genres and different techniques, often combining several techniques of painting, gluing and using various materials, objects and structures.  These first attempts, full of trials and finding herself in a variety of techniques, are well hidden from the eyes of the viewer, representing a stage that everyone must go through.  Fingers cut by pieces of glass have healed long ago, colour stains only remain on an old T-shirt and palettes.  In front of us is unveiled the interesting work of Lucia, who as a self-taught painter has managed to really unwind when painting, she paints based on her feelings; an expert would at times be amazed at the technique that can only be witnessed in Lucia’s basement – because it is the basement where most of her paintings come to life. She had to move to the basement because of larger and larger formats which could no longer fit on a desk or an easel. She paints whenever she feels the urge and when she does, here come the marathons, everything is covered in paint – not only the phone or laptop, but also Lucia’s characteristic curls suddenly gain unexpected abstract hues. After such creative outbursts come days – even weeks – of peace, collecting inspiration, searching for her true self. And when the time comes, the “true self” is found and off she goes to the basement to create something… or something completely different.

In Lucia’s paintings we can see a combination of colours and shapes, which awaken our imagination and take us to a world of images and feelings that are hidden deep inside each one of us.  A whole new world unveils before our eyes, full of our own fantasies, memories and expectations. An abstract painting leaves total freedom in expressing the deepest feelings within one’s soul.

Although at times we can also find geometric objects, lines and shapes with a certain order in her paintings, what she prefers most is total freedom and not being tied by any rules. This is also a character trait of Lucia’s; she enjoys freedom, loves life in all its beauty, diversity and mystery.
