Before every exhibition opening, the atmosphere at Atelier Hlavina is full of energy. Every detail is carefully considered to ensure that, in the end, everything unfolds exactly as intended.
It was no different before the opening of the exhibition PLANES – Hieroným Balko, held on Friday, September 23, 2016. As the fourth vernissage organized by Atelier Hlavina, it quickly captured the hearts of its visitors.
Guests moved freely among the works—paintings, sculptures, and graphic pieces—often guided by the artist himself. They had the opportunity to discuss his perspective on the world, his artistic process, and inspirations, or simply immerse themselves in the works through their own imagination.
Even before 5 p.m., the garden of the manor in Čereňany began to fill with visitors who came to spend their Friday evening surrounded by art. Welcoming them with a glass of wine or homemade must was Viera Žáková, the host, who—as the artist humorously noted—had “orchestrated” the entire event.
Following an initial viewing of the works, the guests took their seats and the program began. Opening remarks were delivered by the host and Anna Lenková, owner of ArtGaléria Schurger, who had recommended the artist. The evening then continued with a speech by the main figure of the exhibition—Hieroným Balko.
Hieroným Balko has devoted more than four decades to his artistic practice. His works evoke a wide range of responses—provocative to some, calming to others; for some they raise questions, while others simply allow themselves to be carried by them.
And that, according to the artist, is essential. Art should move, live, and communicate with the viewer through their own emotions—not those of the creator. As he puts it, once a work is completed, the artist shares with it nothing more than a signature. Everything else belongs to the viewer.
The exhibition is titled PLANES, reflecting the idea that while many things around us can be explained, others—such as love and beauty—remain beyond explanation.
During his speech, Balko also revealed himself as an engaging storyteller and entertainer, effortlessly bringing smiles to the faces of those present.

The exhibition also carried a charitable dimension. During the opening, a fundraising initiative was held in support of the non-profit organization Plamienok, represented on-site by Katarína Maťová, Deputy Director. Many generous visitors contributed, united by a shared desire to help.
Following the official speeches, the program continued with a musical performance by the Simple Quartet, featuring:
- Milan Adamec (violin)
- Miriam Kaiserová (violin)
- Júlia Bolebruchová (viola)
- Katarína Kozelková (cello)
All members are part of the Slovak National Theatre Opera Orchestra in Bratislava. Their performance provided a refined and elegant conclusion to the formal part of the evening.
Afterwards, guests returned to explore Hieroným Balko’s works, while the exhibition space was transformed—thanks to Marián Fila—into a setting with generous refreshments.
The evening then continued in a relaxed and lively atmosphere, filled with conversations, laughter, and pleasant encounters lasting well into the night.

If you missed the opening, there is no need to worry—the exhibition runs until October 15, 2016.
Come and experience the unique work of Hieroným Balko in person.
If you are unable to attend, his works will soon be available in our online gallery Atelier Hlavina, where you can both view and purchase them.
Atelier Hlavina looks forward to welcoming you at future openings and exhibitions.
