Daniel Benkič
I was born on June 16, 1977 in Bratislava. I lived in Pezinok until I was 38 years old. After primary school in Pezinok, I studied civil engineering at the Secondary Industrial School in Trnava.
I was captivated by drawing at an early age. In puberty, when a person begins to perceive the world completely differently, I began to feel a strong desire to express my inner view of the world. Drawing or painting seemed to me the most suitable means of achieving this. Since the 90s of the last century were being written, modern trends in creation were beginning to penetrate our Slovakia. I was most interested in graffiti. Full-color paintings of huge dimensions fascinated me. After several skirmishes with the police, I managed to get a permit to paint the wall of the Pezinsky Amphitheater. This created a huge space for the free creation of writers (sprayers) from the wider area.
In 2017, after about a 15-year break, I returned to active painting again and continue to this day. I continue to feel the need to incorporate a reflection of my somewhat still childish soul into my images. I am most attracted to the atmosphere of the night streets of the old town. The stories that old houses have witnessed for centuries never cease to fascinate me. To express these feelings, canvas and acrylic paints and also watercolor paints serve me the most.
