Milan Ferenčík

Milan Ferenčík was born 2. 1. 1953 in Bratislava. He graduated in the Secondary School of Art and Design in 1972, and then in 1978 in the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, department of Scene Design in Prof. Ladislav Vychodil´s class, where he received the academic title Mgr. Art. (Mba.). From 1979 to 1989 he worked as a stage designer in A. Bagar´s Theatre in Nitra, where he created approximately 40 theatre projects. At the same time he cooperated both with the Slovak Television (app. 100 different TV films and some full-length films) and the Slovak National Theatre (app. 40 opera productions). From 1991 to 1992 he was an Art Director of the Slovak National Theatre’s Decorating Workshops. His most remarkable projects in Slovak National Theatre are stage designs for Mephistopheles by Boito, Verdi´s Othello, Aida, The Force of Destiny and A Masked Ball; Tosca by Puccini; Tannhäuser by Wagner, Rusalka by Dvořák, Werther by Massenet, Krútňava and Svätopluk by Suchoň. He cooperated with the National Theatre in Prague and in time from 1997 to 1999 he prepared the stage design for performance of Isadora Duncan and Onegin. In season of 2004–2005 he cooperated with the National Opera in Prague and created the stage design for Rusalka. For a Japanese art agency Nasa he designed the decorations for the opera Tosca (in cooperation with SND); in 2008 together with an Austrian agency he created the stage design for the opera Madama Butterfly for the Indian Theatre in Bombay. In 1992 he founded his own Art Design Atelier 1, where he works at designs projects and executions of different interiors and exhibitions. In 1998 this studio prepared together with others the Slovak Pavilion at EXPO Lisabon in Portugal. Recently he has been cooperating with the National Theatre in Ostrava and with the State Opera in Košice. During his career he has prepared lot of authorial and collective exhibitions. Today he lives and works in Bratislava.
